Course Details

Title:  PY156 Concepts of Physics II

Course Description: A continuation of PY155. Topics include: electricity, magnetism, wave mechanics, lasers, x-rays and nuclear radiation. Laboratory includes experiments and demonstrations to illustrate and emphasis concepts. 

Credit Hours: 3:3:4

Prerequisite Courses: Prerequisite: PY155 Corequisite: MA160 and PY156L

Core Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of the course, learners will be able to:

1. Interpret real world situations involving physics in conceptual terms
2. Compare and contrast wave properties of sound, light and matter and relate them to how humans hear and see
3. Competently discuss principles of electricity and magnetism, and use them to evaluate an electric circuit
4. Elucidate the basic concepts of physics as a part of our daily lives using Physics terminology
5. Incorporate realistic physics concepts into a short story format creative writing paper.
6. Original experiment a. design an experiment following the principles and tools of scientific investigation; b. hypothesize; c. collect, d. organize, e. analyze, and f. evaluate data; g. draw conclusions; and h. communicate their results
